I am 40 and I have 4 kids (3 are still under age). I want to go back to school to get my associates degree in computer science. I have been on county aid for the last 14 years in to be able to raise my kids by myself. I have no family and no real “support”. Is it possible financially for me to go to school and still be able to support my family?
Yes there is!! Fill out the financial aid paper work on line and tell them what school you want to go to and it will send you paper work telling you how much you have and you can apply to school register and start and buy book with the aid and all. I know cause I went yo school on finiacial aid and I was covered from 2003 and until I graduated 2007.
It should be. From the way it sounds you may even quality for grants that will pay for you entire education. You can also add in for child care expenses. Fill out a FAFSA online, its a federal form that you have to fill out and it will give you a good idea of your costs for college, if there are any. Best of luck.
There are state programs out there to help individuals like you to return to school. You need to talk to your county caseworker for more information. I have a friend who did that and now is a licensed practical nurse at a hospital earning great money. I will include some free resources below to help you locate additional money to attend college. Good luck!
I’m 43 and currently in school on federal grant (doesn’t have to be paid back). I accept $2,000 student loan each semester. They have to start being repaid 6 months after graduation/leaving school. You can borrow more or less. The finacial aid dept. at the school you want to attend will assist you in the paper work.
Yes. Good for you!! Here is a good publication about federal fin aid and the kinds you might qualify for. PS don’t take out student loans unless you absolutely have to.
Good luck.
