Tax return and default student loan?

Im recently default with a student loan and was wondering if the irs will keep it. So I tried to find out by calling the US Treasury offset division, which can tell you if your refund will be offset against a Federal debt. A machine asked for my Social Security number and said that there are no debts in file. Does that mean that I will still get my full tax return?
Probably. Just depends on when the info hits the computers.
Please try to call the student loan authority for the state that you went to college in. Try to work out a pay agreement. Good luck!
If the Treasury doesn’t have it on file than that means that the loan company has not asked them to garnish your refund as of yet. Chances are you will get your full refund this year but in the future if you are not making your payments they can request to have it deducted from your refund. Which is exactaly what happened to my ex about 3 years ago.
i’m also on default for student loan since last year…..but they never offset my refund….
